A man was brought to the investigation for protesting against the video about the personal life of the daughter of the opposition leader

Baku/15.04.21/Turan: Elvar Khalilov, who a few days ago resigned from the ruling YAP (Yeni Azerbaijan Party) in protest against the videos posted on social networks about the personal life of the daughter of the chairman of the National Council Jamil Hasanli, said that he was faced with pressure and threats.

Khalilov claims that a criminal case has been opened against him.

“After my resignation from the YAP, they called me from different places, they threatened me, they put pressure on me. I did not attach any importance to this, because I was on the right way. Until now, I have not been a member of any party, except for the YAP. I was not in opposition. I am a critic. About two days ago, I got a call on the American number. They threatened, reminded of the children, said that I could be accidentally hit by a car while walking along the road. I said, yes, Ogtay Gyulalyev (human rights activist - ed.) was also hit by a car. May be. I am not insured. Yes, I have no rights as a person. I know that,” he noted.

According to Elvar Khalilov, on April 13 he received a call from the police department of the Sabail district of Baku, and was informed about the l;awsuit against him.

“I asked what was  the reason for the lawsui? I was told that in 2016, when I was engaged in commercial activities in Georgia, a person, my business partner, complained about me. Now it is 2021. First, this issue has already been considered. The investigation was carried out at the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Attorney General. I received a call and asked not to make this matter public. They apologized, as it was a mistake. The apology was made at the level of the District Attorney, Chief of Police. Investigation was started. The criminal case against me was initiated by the son of one of the generals of the former Ministry of National Security. They knew that I was doing business in Georgia; they could get money from me.

When the four-story building opposite the US Embassy in Tbilisi was 70 percent ready, my business partner said that he had no income from the construction and left for Azerbaijan. Have you thought about what you can do? A criminal case was opened against me, as if I received and embezzled money. Then I left my partner's work unfinished and presented to the investigation the act of surrender to the Georgian state.

I also paid for his damage. Now, even if not this, then still something against me is expected. How many public activists have been slandered and arrested,” he said.

He said that he was not worried about the criminal case against him.

“I am concerned about this silence of our society against the lawlessness committed by people,” he said.

In turn, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Elshad Hajiyev said that the investigative actions against Khalilov were not related to his political views.

He said that in 2017 the criminal case was dropped because his family had undertaken to pay damages to the injured party. Since this obligation was not fulfilled, the victim complained again.
