Accusations against Fuad Ahmadli are absurd - lawyer

Baku/25.04.17/Turan: A lawsuit against People's Front Party activist Fuad Ahmadli is absolutely far-fetched, and the accusations are absurd. Thus, Asabali Mustafayev, his lawyer, commented on the results of the preparatory court on the case of Ahmedli to Turan. Ahmadli was arrested in August 2016 under Article 302 of the Criminal Code (violation of the law on operational-search activities) and Cl. 1 art. 308 (abuse of office). In March of this year, the charges were re-qualified in paragraphs 2 of these articles, which provide for a more serious punishment.

The investigation incriminates Ahmadli with the distribution of personal data of subscribers of the cellular company Azerfon, where he worked. At the same time, his case was combined into a single case with the case and the financial director of the Azadlig newspaper Faig Amirov, who was accused of having links with the Turkish preacher Fetullah Gulen, whom Ankara accused of plotting against the Turkish government.

Today the Baku Serious Crimes Court rejected the petitions of the defense at the preparatory meeting and took the case against Ahmadli in the proceedings. "The investigation lasted for eight months, and nothing was proved, because this is a political matter. The message of the Prosecutor General's Office and the SSC on the day of Ahmadli's arrest indicated that he is a member of the PFPA. That is, the emphasis on party affiliation shows the political motives of the case," Mustafayev said.

During the period from August to February, there was no victim in the case. "Only in February, "were  found" the victims, whose personal data Ahmadli allegedly distributed. One of them is engaged in advertising in social networks, and he always writes his mobile phone number everywhere. What suddenly disturbed him about the transfer of Ahmadli to his third persons?" Mustafayev said.

"How could a lawsuit be  filed without victims? Ahmadli was a simple operator  in the company, and was not an "official". Therefore, these accusations are ridiculous," said the lawyer. According to the lawyer, in the near future the European Court of Human Rights will start communication on Ahmadli's complaint "for unlawful arrest." - 03B06—
