AFFA refused to hold Turkish Super Cup match in Baku

Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) rejected the Football Federation of Turkey to host the match for the Super Bowl of this country in Baku.

This information of the Turkish media was confirmed by AFFA General Secretary Elkhan Mammadov for Turan. According to him, the reason for refusal was lack of time and the large number of AFFA's own events.

Turkish federation has offered to host the Super Bowl between the champion Galatasaray and the Cup winner Fenerbahce in Baku on August 11.

In recent years, the Turkish Federation has held the Super Cup match outside of the country - in Germany or Austria, where a large Turkish Diaspora is present. Azerbaijan has also been selected in view of the large number of Turkish football fans.

According to sports commentators, the argument AFFA is not quite convincing as it had another two months to match the conditions. Most likely, this decision is related to a desire to avoid "headache."

Matches between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have always been uncompromising both on the field and beyond, with violent fans of both teams. In recent years, the Azerbaijani fans also began to organize riots after matches. Such was the case a week ago, after a match between clubs Neftchi and Khazar Lankaran. In fact even the prosecutors opened a criminal case.

On the decision to refuse to hold the match in Baku, there was certainly an impact of the recent political developments in Turkey, which can also affect the mood of Azerbaijani fans. -06D-
