Afgan Mukhtarly Released to Join Fortieth-day Wake for His Deceased Relatives
Baku / 08.02.18 / Turan: The condemned journalist Afgan Mukhtarly was released for two days to participate in the fortieth-day wake for his deceased close relatives. Turan was informed about this by attorney Neymat Kerimli.
The ceremony of the fortieth-day wake is held in the Zagatala district. Mukhtarly has already arrived in his native village.
Let us recall that on December 31, 2017, a sister and two nieces of the journalist were found dead in a rented apartment in the town of Zagatala. The investigation developed versions of the causes of death from domestic gas leakage and food poisoning.
Recall that Mukhtarly was abducted by police officers of Georgia in Tbilisi on May 29, 2017 and transferred to the authorities of Azerbaijan. He was planted 10 thousand euros in his pocket and accused of illegal border crossing and smuggling.
Mukhtarly is a known journalist that was persecuted in Baku and then moved to Tbilisi and worked with opposition Azerbaijani publications, investigating corruption in the highest echelons of power in Azerbaijan. -05B-
