Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners about Lamia Guliyeva Case
the Public Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners made a statement regarding the situation in prisons and in particular the case of the inmate Lamia Guliyeva, who gave birth to a child in custody.
The statement reported on the "inhuman" treatment of prisoners by prison staff, torture, rape, and even murder of the convicts.
The Prison Service, instead of investigating these cases, hides them and those who protest are persecuted. As an example, Elshad Babayev was killed in Prison No 14 and there is cruelty against those who spoke out against the killing.
As for Lamia Guliyeva, she was unjustly sentenced to 10 years in prison, and while in jail she was added 5.5 years to the term.
"All of this is a joint script of the prosecutors, the Penitentiary Service and the courts," the statement says.
Repeatedly sexually abused by a high-ranking official’s son, this young woman in prison is being tortured and humiliated," the document says.
Birth of a child in custody reveals the essence of the processes in the prison system, where there is tyranny, crime and corruption.
The Alliance demanded the resignation of the head of the Service Madat Guliyev and conduction of serious reforms in this area.
In conclusion, they expressed serious concern about the state of Leyla Yunus, Intigam Aliyev, and all other political prisoners. -04D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
