AMAY Company’s Owner Goes Free on Parole
The Supreme Court considered an appeal by the head of the trading company AMAY Abdulla Abdullayev and released him on parole. As the lawyer Shahin Rafiyev told Turan, the judge Ilham Jafarov replaced the verdict of 13 years of imprisonment by 10 years of conditional imprisonment, with 5 years of probation.
Recall that on September 7, 2015 the Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Abdulla Abdullayev to 13 years in prison after he was convicted under articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement) and 308.2 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He was accused of no return of bank loans.
The rest of the defendants in the case received conditional prison sentences of 3 years. The prosecutor asked for 14 years for Abdullayev and 9-10 years of imprisonment for the others accused.
However, Abdullayev’s guilt was not proved at the trial. Moreover, he produced documents showing the refund. Therefore, he rejected the charges against him and called his arrest ordered. -06D--
