Appeals Court Upholds Blogger Behind Bars
Baku Appeal Court rejected the appeal of an active user of Facebook, 32-year-old Abdul Abilov, sentenced to 5.5 years on charges of drug trafficking.
Thus, the sentence on Abilov was upheld, so the defense intends to file an appeal to the Supreme Court, the lawyer Khalid Baghirov told Turan.
Recall that Abilov was arrested Nov. 22, 2013. The police put 2.679 grams of heroin in his pocket and another 4,677 grams of heroin was “found” in his apartment.
Abilov was convicted in Baku Court of Grave Crimes on May 27.
Abilov said in court that the real reason for his arrest was the desire of the authorities to punish him for his criticism. Abilov was the author and leader of the Facebook page titled: "Stop sycophants."
Human right defenders recognized Abilov a political prisoner. -06B-
