Appeals of 6 youth activists rejected
The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeals of 6 young activists arrested for taking part in the protest on Fountain Square on December 29.
The lawyer Nemat Kerimli protecting the rights of two of them, Tural Sadigli and Javid Hajibayli, told Turan. It is noteworthy that Sadigli's complaint was considered without Sadigli and the lawyer.
The complaints of 5 other activists were reviewed on January 10 and also rejected.
Four of those arrested did not have lawyers.
Recall that the protest was held on December 29 in connection with the bureaucratic arbitrariness that made the disabled of the Karabakh war Zaur Hasanov commit self-immolation.
For participation in this action the Sabail District Court of Baku sentenced to administrative responsibility in the form of 18 days of arrest an activist of the Musavat party Orkhan Eyubzade. A member of the same party Tural Sadigli was sentenced to 17 days. To 16 days in jail were convicted an activist of Musavat Javid Hajibayli and a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA ) Orkhan Jarchy. Another PFPA activist Turkel Alisoy and nonpartisan Samir Poladov were arrested for 15 days. Another 16 people were fined amounts ranging from 300 to 600 manat. -16B06--

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
