Are Authorities Ready to Lift Ban on Journalists Leaving Country?
Baku / 03.05.19 / Turan: At 12:00 on Friday, a group of journalists whose travel outside the country is prohibited, held a protest in front of the Office of the Prosecutor General for Serious Crimes.
The protesters were holding posters demanding the removal of the ban imposed 4 years ago by the prosecutor's office and the termination of the criminal case against the employees of the Internet channel Meydan TV.
The police intervened in the course of the action and tore up their posters, as well as leaflets pasted on the wall of the prosecutor"s office building.
Two of the protesters were taken by prosecutors. During the conversation, they were told that the process of lifting restrictions on their departure from the country had begun and soon the issues would be closed. This was reported by the journalist Natig Javadli after they left the prosecutor's office.
It should be noted that several activists participated in the action, as well as a number of media activists.
Recall that the ban on leaving the country was imposed on a large group of journalists in 2015. At the same time, the authorities opened a criminal case on the illegal financing of this Internet resource and blocked its broadcasting in the territory of Azerbaijan. After that, persecution of relatives of employees of Meydan TV began, and they were forced to publicly refuse of each other. -16D-
