Awarding journalists writing about corruption
Baku/09.04.13/Turan Six journalistic investigations have been recognized by the best in the competition on the theme "Media and corruption." The competition was organized by the journalistic organization Yeni Nasil (New Generation), with the support of international cooperation Foundation "Eurasia", and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The aim of the competition was to encourage journalists to cover the issue of corruption.
According to Arif Aliyev, the head of Yeni Nasil, corruption remains a pressing issue, however, the articles about it in media comprise only 2%.
According to him, 37 works were presented to the contest; six of them were distinguished by the highest professionalism and courage.
It was decided not to range according to places, but to award all six authors.
Among the winners are :
- Rashad Rustamov, the newspaper "The Mirror" for the article "Zolotumyshlenniki" (investigating corruption in the land withdrawal from the residents in the Gedebey region);
- Farman Nabiev, the newspaper "The lights of Mingechevir" for the article "The Money Trap" (corruption when setting gas meters);
- Ramin Deko, "Azadlig" newspaper, for the article "Earthquakes in 320 million manat in Zagatala region of Azerbaijan, and 130 million manat in the village of Van in Turkey (in the article refers to the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey's Van for 130 manat million, while in Zagatala - 320 million manat and only part of works have been done);
- Gultekin Knyazgizi, "Azadlig" newspaper, for the article "Everything begins with the schools" (investigated facts of inflated sums for school construction);
- Elkhan Salahov from the Lent.az portal for the article "Corruption: Why from the bottom ..." (about the facts of harassment of entrepreneurs by officials);
- Nushaba Fatullayeva, radio "Azadlig", for video "Gobustan two years later, after the president’s visit" (about not fulfilling public promises by the President for development of infrastructure of the settlement.)

On November 12, the summit of world leaders commenced at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Baku. According to "Euronews," citing sources from the UN, the event is attended by around 100 heads of state.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
