Azerbaijan is becoming a country of transit migration
Economic Development of Azerbaijan and development of transport corridors through its territory create conditions for transit migration . This was stated by the Acting Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Baku Serhan Aktorpak at the event on the International Migrants Day .
According to him, in the 90s, Azerbaijan was more a source country of migration.
However, with the development of economy , Azerbaijan becomes the final destination, as well as transit migration .
"Migration is not a problem, but a process that requires regulation," said Aktorpak .
He stressed that no country is able to regulate migration and therefore require international cooperation.
To date , the world has 1 billion migrants , including 238 million international and 70 million domestic people. It is a global challenge that countries can confront together.
A major problem is illegal immigration . Worldwide turnover of trafficking reaches 35 billion dollars.
Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova noted the need to establish a common data bank on migrants and talked about international cooperation in protecting the rights of migrants. Recently, during a visit to Russia were promptly resolved issues with the return of 16 illegal migrants. They were threatened with deportation , which meant a ban on entry to Russia for 5 years.
The deputy head of the State Migration Service Parviz Musayev reported preparation of an agreement with Russia on cooperation in the field of migration. With Turkey a similar agreement has already been signed.
He also reported on measures to improve the situation of migrants in Azerbaijan.
So tolling for registration at the place of stay has been canceled. In addition, migrants who marry citizens of Azerbaijan shall be exempt from obtaining employment licenses.
