Azerbaijan men's judo team coaches dismissed
Baku/02.08.21/Turan: Due to the failed performance of Azerbaijani judokas at the Tokyo Olympics, the entire coaching staff of the national team was dismissed, the message of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.
According to the same source, the salary of highly paid judokas will now be issued based on their performance in prestigious international competitions.
Elchin Ismayilov, senior coach of the Azerbaijani youth team, has been appointed temporary mentor of the men's team.
The decisions were made at a meeting of the Federation on August 2 under the leadership of its vice-president Sadig Sadigov.
The president of the national federation is the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev. He concurrently heads the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan.
At the Games in Tokyo, Azerbaijan was represented by seven judokas and only one of them reached the ¼ final. For comparison, at the previous Olympics in Rio, Azerbaijani judokas won two silver medals.
Unlike men, in women's judo in Tokyo, one of the two athletes, Irina Kindzerskaya, won bronze medal. -03B-
