Azerbaijan Represented by 29 Paralympians at Islamic Solidarity Games
Baku / 13.05.17 / Turan: Paralympic athletes will compete in judo and track and field athletics at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku. Azerbaijan will be represented by 29 Paralympic athletes - 12 in judo and 17 in track and field athletics, the Vice President of the National Paralympic Committee Shaig Hamidov told Turan.
In the judo tournament, competitions take place in four weight categories among men and two weight categories of women. Fights among women began today.
Seventeen athletes will compete in running, ball pushing, disk and spear throwing, jumping, etc.
Competitions in track and field athletics will begin on May 15.
Paralympic athletes are trained in a complex in Sumgait specially built for them, which is the only one in the South Caucasus. There is also ongoing work with children with disabilities. As the trainer of the complex Kamal Mammadov said, about 60-70 children are involved here.
In Azerbaijan, for the first time in the world, the Children's Paralympic Committee was established in 2013 and competitions for children have been held twice. -06D--
