Azerbaijani Wrestlers Won Two Olympic Medals

Azerbaijani sportsmen won medals of the Games: Rovshan Bayramov (55 kg.) - silver, and Emin Akhmedov (74 kg) - bronze. Thus, the total number of Olympic medals at Azerbaijan has increased to three. Earlier, the weightlifter Valentin Christov won a bronze medal.
Bayramov started with 1/16 in two rounds with the same score 1:0, 1:0 and prevailed over the Russian Mingiyan Semenov from Kalmykia, who later won a bronze medal of the Olympics. Also, with the score 4-0, 4-0 Bayramov beat the American Thomas Mango in the eighth finals. In the quarter-final the opponent was Lee Shuzhin from China. The Azeri athlete won with a score of 3-0, 2-0. In the semifinal Bayramov won the Korean Guidzhina Choi 1-0, 2-0.
However, in the final Bayramov was defeated by the five-time world champion Iranian Hamid Reyhanpour in two rounds - 0:1,0:1.
Thus, 25-year-old Bayramov, repeating his result four years ago in Beijing, also received a silver medal and became a double Olympic medalist.
Akhmedov began the competition with 1/8 finals and beat at the first fight the Croatian Neven Zhugay - 4:0, 1:0. His next opponent was Zurab
Datunashvili from Georgia. Losing the first round 0-3, Akhmedov won the second and third rounds 3-0 and 4-0. In the semifinals, he lost to Arsen Dzhulfalakyan from Armenia 0-2, 0-3. In the fight for the bronze medal in a bitter battle Akhmedov defeated the Belarusian Alexander Kikin in three rounds (0:2, 2:1, 1:0).
The gold medal in the 74 kg weight category was won by the Russian Vlasov, who won Julfalakyan from Armenia (1:0, 1:0) in the finals.
On Sunday two Azerbaijani sportsmen performed at the Olympics. At the equestrian competitions Jamal Rahimov at the second stage of jumping training took the 60th place and ended his performance at the Olympics.
Not a good start to compete in boxing was also taken by the vice-world champion Elena Vystropova (75 kg). In the eighth finals she was defeated by Edith Ogoke 12:14 (2:4, 2:4, 6:3, 2:3) and dropped out of the competition.
On August 6 in the boxing competition quarterfinals there will be a match of the Azerbaijani sportsman Magomedrasul Majidov (over 91 kg).
The Greco-Roman style wrestlers Hasan Aliyev (60 kg) and Saman Tahmasibi (84 kg) will also come onto the carpet.
In the first 9 days of the Olympics in the informal championship Azerbaijan took 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and occupies the 41st place.
