Bakhtiyar Hajiyev went on a dry hunger strike

Baku/16.02.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev went on a dry hunger strike. This was reported to Turan by lawyer Agyl Laij after a telephone conversation with Hajiyev on February 16.

According to the lawyer, Hajiyev is not satisfied with the treatment he received at the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service.

“They imposed restrictions on his phone calls to his relatives and the Ombudsman. His applications to the relevant structures are not accepted. He was not allowed to see his mother today. He is under strong psychological pressure,” Laij said.

According to him, on Thursday afternoon Hajiyev went on a dry hunger strike. And even his statement about this was not accepted at the medical institution, the lawyer said.

Laij addressed the Ombudsman and the Ministry of Justice in this regard.

“I asked for an immediate response to the situation with Bakhtiyar. For the transition to a dry hunger strike brings the tragic end closer,” the lawyer summed up.

* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.

On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.

On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. ----21B06---
