Bakus Olive Grove Liberated?
Baku / 07.09.18 / Turan: The Executive Power of Baku and the Binagadi district conducted demolition of fences on 16 illegally seized sites in the Olive Grove, which is in the Sixth Residential Area of Baku.
As reported by Turan from the city administration, in this area of more than 3 hectares the restoration of green spaces has begun.
"In connection with the illegal seizure of the park area and the destruction of green spaces the report will be sent to the law enforcement agencies," the source said.
The Mayor's office also informed about the continuation of works on landscape improvement and demolition of fences and hedges illegally built on the seized areas, disturbing and annoying the residents.
Recall that the Olive Grove was laid back in the 70th years of the last century. In the early 2000s, officials and oligarchs seized the grove by building villas. An officer of the Ministry of National Security Akif Chovdarov was also a participant in these illegal actions. These actions were filmed by the reporter of the Azadlig newspaper Aghil Khalil who also published a photo of those MNS officers.
After that, Chovdarov and his subordinates began to hunt for the reporter. A criminal case was brought against him and several attempts were made. However, the journalist did not refuse and was forced to emigrate from the country with the help of the organization Reporters Without Borders.
Over the past years, officials have managed to grab most of the grove and build up villas there. -03B06-
