Cases of Thirty Strict Regime Prisoners Considered
The Commission on Parole on May 12, 2015 visited Correctional Facility №11 intended for prisoners convicted to a strict regime of detention. With the participation of the prisoners themselves, the Commission examined 30 cases and recommended 26 of them (87%) for parole, the Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan (HRCA) told Turan.
According to the member of the HRCA Board Zaliha Tagirova, who took part in the meeting, "when considering parole the Commission takes into account the personality of the convicted person, his marital status and disability. For example, this time among others, we recommend releasing a disabled veteran of the Karabakh war. I hope he will soon be reunited with his family."
It should be noted that the Commission, which includes officials of various departments of the Ministry of Justice and civil society, was established in April 2013 at the initiative of the Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov. Since 2014 its work has also involved experts from HRCA. --0-
