Cause of Rebellion in Prison Number 14 Clarified
The reason for the rebellion in Prison №14 on December 22 was the death of a 31 year-old prisoner Elshad Babayev, who died as a result of torture, the sister of the deceased, Simuzar told Yeni Musavat.
According to her, in respect of Elshad Babayev were committed illegal actions by Major Firdovsi, head of the regime, first lieutenant Faik and several other employees of the jail.
Simuzar also provided photographs showing signs of torture on the body of her brother.
"At eight o'clock on December 22, I got a call. Somebody, who did not introduce himself, said that Elshad’s corpse is in the morgue of Lokbatan.
When I asked about the cause of his death, he said that he cannot give any information.
I went to the morgue and saw the corpse of my brother. Traces of torture were on the face, hands, neck, lower back, and on the feet. The feet were very swollen.
At the morgue, I was given a document that did not list the cause of the death.
There I took a photo of the corpse of my brother," said Simuzar.
At the request of Turan on the cause of the death of Elshad Babayev, the assistant chief of the Prison Service for PR Yashar Isagov said that the information about the death of Babayev from torture is not true.
"The Prison Service issued official information about the events in Prison №14.
In connection with the death of Elshad Babayev the Garadagh district prosecutor's office opened a criminal case under investigation, the progress of which will be communicated to the public," said Isagov.
However, the Garadag Prosecutor's Office declined to comment on the case and did not report on what kind of article of the Criminal Code it is prosecuted. -03B04-
