Consideration of the appeal of the Facebook activist Abdul Abilova

 A preliminary hearing on the complaint of the active user Facebook, 32-year-old Abdul Abilov, sentenced to 5.5 years in prison on charges of drug trafficking, took place in the Baku Court of Appeal chaired by Vugar Mammadov. The appeal requests to overturn the trial court and render a verdict of acquittal.

According to Shahriyar Abilov,  relative of the accused, before a meeting A.Abilov suffered from tear gas that was used in the room for keeping  the detained in connection with the incident between supporters of crime bosses.

When Abilova was  brought into the courtroom, his eyes were completely red,  and his left hand was injured. Protection in this petition to appeal to conduct re-trial. The Court rejected the petition and scheduled a hearing  for August 4.

However Abilov intends to file an appeal against the decision of the preliminary hearing the Court of Appeal. In this case, consideration of the appeal will be postponed indefinitely.

Abilov was arrested  on November 22, 2013. According to the defense, in a pocket Abilov was planted 2,679 gr. heroin, but in  the apartment was "found" another 4,677 gr. heroin. On May 27 Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced Abilov to  five years and a half  of  imprisonment.

Abilov rejected the accusation and said that the drugs were planted  by police for criticizing the government in social networks. In particular, he created and led a page called: Stop sycophants. Abilov's defenders recognized him as a political prisoner. -16/06C-
