Court Did Not Release Mammad Ibrahim under House Arrest
Baku / 10/05/18 / Turan: The Yasamal District Court of Baku, chaired by Huseyn Safarov, today rejected the motion to transfer the adviser to the Popular Front Party"s head, Mammad Ibrahim, under house arrest or release him on bail. The court dismissed the petition, the activist"s son Turan Ibrahim said. According to him, the court"s decision will be appealed.
He also reported about the problems with the health of his father, who became ill the day before during his meeting with the lawyer in Baku Detention Center No. 1.
Recall that Mammad Ibrahim was arrested on September 30, 2015 and convicted on charges of hooliganism and sentenced to 3 years. He is recognized a political prisoner by human rights activists.
The day before the end of the term, he was charged with illegal possession of prohibited items (knife), under which he faces up to 6 months in prison.
On September 28, the Yasamal Court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest for 2 months with regard to Ibrahim. -16B06-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
