Court of Appeal Leaves Political Prisoner's Father under Arrest
Baku / 06.08.18 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal rejected the complaint about the administrative arrest of Zafar Ahmedov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).
As reported by the PFPA press service, the complaint about Ahmedov's arrest was considered by the Court of Appeal on August 6 under the chairmanship of Judge Elshad Shamayev.
Ahmedov himself said that after returning from the province to Baku, he discovered the absence of electricity in his apartment. When he went out into the yard to find out the reason, he was immediately put in a Mercedes car and taken away.
Ahmedov called false the police statements that he allegedly swore in the street with representatives of the company Azerishig and did not obey the police when they tried to separate them.
PFPA is convinced that Z. Ahmedov, as well as his son Fuad Ahmadli are persecuted for political reasons.
* Fuad Ahmadli was arrested on August 17, 2018 on the far-fetched charge of "violating the norms of the law on operative-search activity", in particular, the distribution of personal data of users of the Azerfon mobile communications network.
In addition, he was accused of abuse of office. On June 16, 2017, Ahmadli was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment. On August 17, the appellate court upheld the verdict. Ahmadli is recognized as a political prisoner. -06B-
