Court of Appeal Left Khadija Ismailova in Custody
The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal from the journalist Khadija Ismailova about the extension of the term of her arrest. Thus, the 6 March decision of the Nasimi Court remains in force until May this year.
The lawyer Fakhraddin Mehdiyev told Turan that at the meeting a decision was made to dismiss the lawyer Yalchin Imanov from Ismailova’s defense.
The investigator of the Office for Serious Crimes Prosecutor General Orkhan Babayev explained it with the fact that Imanov was a witness during the search and so he cannot perform the function of lawyer.
However, the lawyers and their client Ismailova protested. Ismailova said that this decision was taken in order to weaken her defense.
* Khadija Ismailova was arrested on December 5, 2014 on charges of incitement of the journalist Tural Mustafayev to a suicide attempt.
However, on February 13, the prosecutors filed new charges on three articles - 179.3.2 (embezzlement in large size), 192.2.2 (illegal business with the extraction of a large income) and 308.2 (abuse of power, resulting in grave consequences) of the Criminal Code. -16D04-
