Court rejects the appeal of Khadija Ismayilova
Baku Appeal Court presided by Ikram Shirinov considered the appeal of journalist Khadija Ismayilova against the decision of Yasamal court on the protection of honor , dignity and business reputation. Ismayilova filed a lawsuit against the pro-government newspaper "Iki Sahil."
In March 2013 the Court of First Instance rejected the Ismayilova’s claim.
The lawsuit was filed because the newspaper "Iki Sahil" reprinted in March 2012 an article in the newspaper "Yeni Azerbaijan ", published on 13 March.
These information in the article contained false, defamatory and offensive comments discrediting the journalist. However, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal.
Thus, at the previous session the court invited the parties amicable settlement.
Media Rights Institute called the solutions of both vessels to be "illegal." The decision of the Baku Court of Appeal will file a cassation complaint to the Supreme Judges. -16D -
