Dates arrest Fouad Ahmadli and Faig Amirov extended
On 11 November the Nasimi District Court extended for another two months the terms of preventive measures in the form of arrest against the activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Fuad Ahmadli and Faig Amirov. They will remain in custody until 12 January 2017, said the lawyers of the activists. Lawyers intend to appeal those decisions.
Ahmadli and Amirov were arrested in August this year in the framework of criminal proceedings against alleged supporters of the Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who lives in the United States. The Turkish authorities have accused him of attempting a military coup in July 2015, and terrorism, after which the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan began to look for "helpers" of Gülen in his country.
Oppositionists charged with inciting religious hatred. Amirov is also a Chief Financial Officer of "Azadlig" newspaper.
On 11 November the international organization "Reporters without Borders" (RSF) defended Amirov. It expressed concern about the deterioration of the health Amirov.
"Faig Amirov was arrested on absurd charges and needs treatment. This situation shows the hard situation with human rights in Azerbaijan. We are concerned about the health of Amirov, and demand his immediate release," reads the statement.
The document also noted that after the arrest of Amirov the authorities created additional challenges for problems for the "Azadlig" newspaper , and she was forced to stop publishing. The investigation questioned not only the newspaper's staff, but also those who placed their advertising and announcements in the issue. -06D--
