Defense Asks to Acquit Mehman Huseynov
Today the lawyer Elchin Sadigov has presented an appeal against the sentence on the blogger Mehman Huseynov.
As the lawyer told Turan, the appeal of 23 pages fully covers all the circumstances of the case. The defense asks to acquit the blogger.
In the process of consideration of the complaint it is proposed to change the measure of restraint and release Huseynov, and carry out the trial partially with the judicial investigation.
According to the lawyer, within 10 days the court of first instance shall forward the complaint to the private prosecutor and then, along with his comments, to the Court of Appeal.
The lawyer believes that the preliminary hearing may be scheduled in the Baku Court of Appeal in late March - early April.
Sadigov today met with the blogger in the Shuvelan jail.
Mehman Huseynov has no objection to join other lawyers to his defense, Sadigov said.
* Mehman Huseynov was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment on the lawsuit of the Nasimi Police Chief Musa Musayev. The Court found defamation in Huseynov's allegations that he was tortured in the Nasimi Police.
Local and international human rights organizations have strongly condemned the arrest of the human rights activist and blogger Huseynov and demanded his release. -06D--
