"Earth Hour" in Baku

On Saturday, March 28, more than 170 countries will join the most massive ecological action of the world - "Earth Hour". During the action, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) calls on his supporters to turn off the lights and electrical appliances for one hour as a sign of indifference to the future of the planet. At the same time will be turned off  the backlight of the most famous buildings and monuments in the world.

On the Earth Hour website there are two possibilities to support the action: to leave a signature on a petition to the president, or "light a candle" on the map. Now on the map there are over 32,500 candles that indicated people from different countries: Russia, USA, Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, Panama, Iceland, the UK, France, Spain, Tunisia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, South Korea , Japan, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, as well as  people from countries such as Botswana and Syria.

In Azerbaijan, the coordinator of the action is the  Public Association of the International Dialogue on Environmental Action (IDEA.) According to the scenario of IDEA, 60 minutes from 20:30 to 21:30 will be turned off lights of the Government House and the Hotel Marriot, and people  wishing to support the action will light lanterns and candles on the​ ​"Azadlig" square. In the evening, Baku will host a bike tour Critical Mass Baku.
