Earthquake Hits Southern Caspian Region

Iran has conducted military drills in the northern territory bordering Azerbaijan. The "Mehr" news agency reported this on August 13. According to the agency, citing a local official, the purpose of the drills was to strengthen the defensive readiness of the army's naval forces. "Reuters" reported that the exercises took place in the Gilan province on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

The State Statistics Committee has amended several decisions to eliminate legal discrepancies after the introduction of the law “on amendments to the Civil Procedure Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, The Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “on the Prevention of domestic violence” adopted on March 29, 2024.

“Bakcell”, the country's largest private mobile operator, is launching its first debit card,  “Bakcell Card”. Created in collaboration with the country's leading bank, “Kapital Bank”, “Bakcell Card” boasts the largest partner network among debit cards.

The Antimonopoly Service has launched an investigation into the pricing practices of internet service providers in Azerbaijan, suspecting that they may be artificially inflating prices. However, the government itself played a significant role in this shift by raising the minimum monthly internet fee to 25 manats as of August 15, effectively eliminating cheaper, low-speed internet options for consumers. Over the past two years, internet costs in Azerbaijan have more than doubled.
