Elchin Mammad is admitted to the hospital for prisoners
Baku/13.06.21/Turan: Human rights activist Elchin Mamed, who is serving a prison sentence, was placed in the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service on June 12. This is stated in the message of the NGO "Legal education of youth of Sumgayit", which Mammad heads.
At the hospital, he will undergo an ultrasound examination, as well as tests in connection with hepatitis C, of which he is a carrier. In addition, the activist will be examined in connection with varicose veins and prostatitis.
Several days ago, Mamed's condition in colony number 16 deteriorated sharply and he lost consciousness.
*On October 17, 2020, the Sumgayit city court sentenced Elchin Mamed to 4 years in prison, finding him guilty of "theft" and "illegal storage of ammunition and weapons."
The human rights defender was arrested in March 2020. A woman to whom he provided legal assistance complained about him. The previously mentioned woman also complained about the editor of the website criminal.az Anar Mammadov.
Mamed explained his arrest with his human rights activities. International organizations Amnesty International, PEN, FİACAT and others condemned the arrest of Mamed. Local human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.-06B-
