EU Concerned about Hilal Mamedov
The European Union delegation in Baku expressed concern about the health of Hilal Mammadov, the arrested editor of Tolyshi Sado.
The letter to a member of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights of the Editor, Atakhan Abilov, reads the EU representation is taking steps for the right of Mammadov’s necessary treatment.
Mamedov has chronic asthma and other problems, but, in violation of the law, authorities do not allow a doctor to visit him. The state of Mammadov anxiety was also expressed by the Director of the Department for Russia, Eastern Partnership and Central Asia of European External Action Service, Gunnar Wiegand. He promised the European Commission will raise the issue during Mamedov’s human rights dialogue.
* The Chief Editor of Tolyshi Sado, the deputy head of the Talysh Cultural Centre, Hilal Mammadov was arrested on June 21 on charges of drug possession. Pn July 4th he was already charged under Articles 274 (high treason) and 283.2.2 (incitement of national, racial, social and religious hatred, hostility, and ethnic discrimination.)
The local and international democratic community is convinced Mammadov is being persecuted for political reasons because of his active civil position and human rights activities. Mammadov is the author of a popular online video on Azerbaijani Meykhana "Who are you? Come on, goodbye!" -0 –

As part of the struggle against illegal migration in Baku city, operative actions were carried out at different addresses. The Interior Ministry reports that employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Migration identified and detained 34 foreigners without documents giving the right to reside and stay on the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the operation of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 5 members of an organized group engaged in drug trafficking were detained. All of them have previous convictions: Bahlul Ismayilov, Royal Aliyev, Khayal Aliyev, Samir Aghayev, and Ali Mammadli.
