Baku / 26.04.17 / Turan: The state of health of the Financial Director of the Azadlig newspaper and the assistant to the Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Faig Amirov, deteriorated sharply in the Kurdakhani detention center. Turan was informed about this by Amirov's wife Lala Amirli.
Her husband has pains in the gallbladder and the heart, and he often vomits.
Amirov suffered from stomach pains before his arrest. In the conditions of the detention center his health has aggravated and new diseases have appeared.
Amirov needs dietary food, but there are no conditions in the detention center for constant provision of this.
Recall that Amirov was detained on August 20, 2016. He was charged with inciting inter-religious strife. In particular, Amirov was presented by the investigation as an Imam of the movement Hizmet, which is accused of terrorism and an attempted coup in Turkey.
On April 17 Amirov was charged under new articles, in particular, under articles 213.1 (evasion from tax payment) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. On April 19, the preliminary investigation was announced completed. Amirov rejected all the accusations as far-fetched.
After Amirov's arrest, the issue of the newspaper Azadlig was terminated. The bank serving the newspaper refused to recognize the authority of other employees of the newspaper Azadlig.
After Amirov's arrest, a tax audit of the activities for the years 2010-2016 was arranged in the newspaper's editorial office. The majority of employees of the newspaper were summoned for interrogation to the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office.
