First "Gold" of Azerbaijan in Olympic Games in Rio
The Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Radik Isayev, acting in the weight category over 80 kg, won the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
In the final match he defeated Razak Issoufou from Niger with a score of 6: 2 and brought the first gold medal to the Azerbaijani national team.
A 27-year-old native of Dagestan, Isaev has been performing in favor of Azerbaijan since the end of 2012. In 2014 he became the champion of Europe, and in 2015 he won the world championship and the first European Games in Baku.
Isayev's victory allowed Azerbaijan to rise in the unofficial team standings to the 39th place. Totally Azerbaijan has 15 awards, including one gold medal, 4 silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
In addition, at least a silver medal will be provided by the boxer Sotomayor, who will meet in the final match with an athlete from Uzbekistan on Sunday. -06D--

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
