Former Minister of National Security (MNS) of Nakhchivan is arrested
A few weeks ago in Nakhchivan was arrested Veli Alasgarov, former minister of security of the Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. This was reported by "Azadlig" newspaper, citing informed sources. The formal reasons for the arrest allegedly became the embezzlement while the repair of the building of the MNS Nakhchivan. However, sources in the Nakhchivan told Turan that the true reason is that Alasgarov was close to Eldar Mahmudov, the former chief of the country's Ministry of National Security. Local sources also report that all close relatives of Alasgarov were dismissed, and their commercial facilities or property were taken away. "All relatives of Alasgarov have private cars with the numbers MNS - 009. All numbers were also taken away," Turan was told by informed source in Nakhchivan. In the city of Nakhchivan was completely demolished the villa built by Alasgarov for Eldar Mahmudov. Another villa in the resort town of Batha-Batha, also built for the Mahmudov, was confiscated. Turan failed to get comments in official circles in Nakhchivan and in the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan in Baku.
The name of Veli Alasgarov has repeatedly been mentioned in scandals related to the persecution of human rights defenders and ordinary citizens. Among these cases was widely known the murder of Turac Zeynalov in the MNB, who was accused of spying for Iran. In addition, long-term pressure on spouses, human rights activists Malahat and Ilgar Nasibovs completed by the attack on the latter and causing him severe injuries. Access of human rights defenders and journalists to Nakhchivan has become a dangerous and practically impossible. In terms of the suppression of the rights and freedoms this region for a long time has already reached the level of North Korea. -02В-
