Former Minister of Security of Nakhchivan Arrested Again
In Nakhchivan the measure of restraint for the former head of the Ministry of National Security of the autonomous republic, General Veli Aleskerov has been changed again, and he was sent to prison.
The decision was made by the court on May 14 and the investigative body was thus satisfied, the lawyer Vugar Khasayev told Turan. The lawyer however does not know the reasons for changing the preventive measure. Currently, the lawyer has arrived from Baku to Nakhchivan and is trying to meet with his client.
Aleskerov was removed as head of the Ministry of National Security in December 2015. On January 7, he was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code: 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale), 308.1 (abuse of the power) and 309.1 (exceeding the duties).
However, on March 29, he was released under house arrest. In late April, Aleskerov’s lawyers held a press conference, saying the use of torture against him, violating his rights, and the illegal seizure of property from the former minister and all his relatives. -03B-
