Forum of Intellectuals Condemns Arrest of Nigar Yagublu
The Forum of Intellectuals condemned and expressed concern at the arrest of a young activist, deputy chairman of the youth organization of the party Musavat, Nigar Yagublu.
In the statement on this, the Forum said that all are equal before the law, and all are to bear adequate responsibility, regardless of their political and social status.
"The arrest of Nigar Yagublu has no analogue as measure for traffic accidents. This raises concern that the arrest was politically motivated."
Nigar Yagublu is young and not a socially dangerous figure. She has not been judged before, and suffered severe physical and psychological trauma in the traffic accident for which she needs treatment. Against this background, her arrest is seen as political. This is confirmed by the authorities ignoring the appeals of the public, intellectuals and members of Parliament to change the measure of restraint regarding Nigar Yagublu.
This is viewed as injustice and political pressure on youth activists and dissidents.
The Forum of Intellectuals considers it a dangerous precedent, deepening the dissension between the political poles, and a reason for radicalization of the relations in the society. -03D04-
