"Gift" by the authorities to Bakuvians - Grand Prix Formula 1

Yesterday in the Fairmont Hotel there was a presentation of the Baku route Formula 1 race which will be held in 2016. As the Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said, in 2016 in Baku Formula 1 - Grand Prix of Europe will take place for the first time.

"We are very pleased that Baku has become one of the European capitals. The whole world will see the streets of Baku during the race. It is very difficult but interesting project. I think that the Azerbaijan race Formula 1 will cause a lot of interest," said Rahimov.

According to him, the exact timing of events has not been determined.

Major work on the preparation will begin after the European Games in June 2015.

Referring to the road races, Rahimov said that stretch of the road along the walls of Icheri Shahar (Old City) will be laid with cobblestones and will not be destroyed. This segment will be covered with sand and carpeted with concrete slabs. In addition, along the route there will be constructed spectator stands for 25 thousand people, cheered Rahimov.

The head of the Federation of Motorsport Anar Alekperov, in turn, said that the security issues are dealt with on the basis of the experience of foreign colleagues. It is also planned to construct a special track for racing around Baku.

In addition, the federation suggests organizing an exhibition of retro cars in the Heydar Aliyev Center.

The Executive Director of the competition Formula 1 Bernie Ecclestone expressed confidence that the European Grand Prix in Baku will take place at the highest level.

"Why did we choose Baku? We are looking for a beautiful city. That is why we chose the capital of Azerbaijan," he said.

According to him, usually contracts with cities are signed for 7 years, but in the case of Baku the term of the agreement is 9 years.

The length of the Baku route will be 6,000 meters, including 8 right and 12 left turns. The speed of the cars will be from 240 to 340 km / h. The start and finish are near the Government House.

The fastest area will be along the Baku Boulevard - 2.2 km long.

We recall that two years ago Baku hosted an exponential "presentation" of cars on Formula 1. Then for three days Baku people were troubled and annoyed by the roar of dozens of engines. They were unable to move normally and to understand why a country at war should host such "holidays."

According to unofficial data, the Azerbaijani taxpayers will pay 40 million EUR for this “entertainment”. -06D-
