Giyas Ibrahimov to Stand Trial (UPDATED)
The head of the press service of the Main Police Department of Baku, Elshad Hajiyev, commented on the detention of Giyas Ibrahimov.
According to him, the activist on June 9 at about 5 p.m. climbed onto the roof of his house, where he made “illegal calls, trying to attract public attention”.
According to Hajiyev, Ibrahimov threatened to commit suicide if police officers approached him.
“As a result of the operative actions of the police, he was rescued and taken to the police station,” the Main Police Department’s spokesperson said.
He noted that an investigation is being carried out in connection with Ibrahimov and the materials will be sent to the district court.”
In turn, lawyer Elchin Sadigov said that Ibrahimov is charged with article 510.1 (petty hooliganism) of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
On June 10, Ibrahimov will appear before the court and will face arrest for up to 15 days. -21B-

Baku / 09.06.20 / Turan: A youth activist Giyas Ibrahimov held a protest rally on June 9, deploying the slogan "Stop bending, do not be silent, and say something."
The rally was held in protest against the special operation by the Rapid Reaction Regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on June 8 against residents of an apartment building on Dadash Bunyadzadeh Street in the Yeni Yasamal massif.
“If we don’t feel safe at home, we should protest at home. Repression must be resisted everywhere,” Ibrahimov said.
Arriving police orders seized a poster, and Ibrahimov was detained. He was beaten by police, his mother said. It was not possible to receive comments at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Giyas Ibrahimov is known for having been sentenced to 10 years in prison for writing political slogans on a monument to Heydar Aliyev in central Baku 4 years ago, along with other activists. Subsequently, he was pardoned. —06В-
