Human rights activist proposes to declare a large-scale amnesty
Baku / 16.11.20 / Turan: The Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners welcomes the signing of a document on the ceasefire regime from November 10, which marked the end of the war in Karabakh with the victory of Azerbaijan.
“We, former political prisoners, consider it necessary to continue these successes in domestic politics, to achieve full civil harmony and consolidation of the people for creative processes and the revival of the liberated territories, strengthening the country's international image,” said the head of the Center, Elshan Hasanov.
In this regard, he proposes to declare a large-scale amnesty and an act of pardon in order to release a large number of convicts, including more than 190 political prisoners, including “life sentences”.
It is also proposed to ensure the independence of the courts, freedom of assembly, speech, conscience and religion and other fundamental freedoms, to carry out personnel reforms in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and justice.
