Human Rights Activists Discuss Issue of Political Prisoners with Minister of Internal Affairs
Representatives of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Human Rights on Saturday met with Interior Minister Ramil Usubov. Turan was reported by a member of the JWG, a human rights activist Novella Jafaroglu.
According to her, the main topic of discussion at the meeting, which lasted about two hours, was a problem of political prisoners.
In particular, the issues were associated with the arrests of the journalist Khadija Ismailova and the human rights activists Intigam Aliyev and Leyla Yunus.
As Jafaroglu noted, the meeting stressed the need to pardon political prisoners.
The Interior Minister responded positively to the proposals of the human rights defenders.
On December 8, the human rights defenders will meet with the First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov and with the Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov.
During these meetings, it is also expected to discuss the possibilities of pardon for political prisoners .-- 05B06-
