Ilham Aliyev congratulated the nation on the occasion of the European Olympic Games in Baku
President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the European Olympic Committee's decision to hold the first European Games шт Ифлг шт 2015.
Aliyev called the decision a "historic event" as earlier European Olympic Games were not conducted.
In taking this decision, the main role was played by several factors: the strengthening of the international authority of Azerbaijan, political stability in the country, its economic development, large-scale development of infrastructure in Baku, including sports, according to the President's message.
Moreover, the choice is the result of Baku and Azerbaijan's achievements in sports in recent years.
"At this year's Summer Olympics, we made a historic victory and won 10 medals. Globally, we took the 30th place, and among the European countries – 15th,” said Aliyev.
He assured that in the next 2 years all will be done to ensure that the European Olympic Games will be held in Baku at a high level.
