Ilham Aliyev to the question on Leyla Yunus: nobody can interfere in our affairs
Baku/12.05.14/Turan : On Monday, May 12 after the signing of bilateral documents in Baku a press conference of the presidents of France and Azerbaijan was held. Independent press was not invited.
According to French media, the Presidents were asked about the arrested journalist Rauf Mirkadirov and the persecution of the human rights activist Leyla Yunus.
"I keep turning up human rights issues, these issues are always a priority for France and its people," said Hollande, adding that he raised all these questions at the meeting with Aliyev.
In turn, Aliyev said that the state of human rights in Azerbaijan is "positive" and "no one is persecuted for his political views."
At the same time, he said that political reforms are very important for Azerbaijan, and in this respect the rich experience of France is very useful. Azerbaijan shares these values.
Next, the Heads of State touched the Karabakh problem. Hollande noted that France supports the principle of territorial integrity. "We are committed to a peaceful settlement and it is one of the goals of our visit to the Caucasus," he said.
"As one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, France has a great responsibility and tries to fulfill its obligations under the confidence-building measures," Hollande said, adding that the talks will continue in Yerevan after lunch.
Concerning the issues of energy, the French President said that at the meeting with Aliyev he also discussed the participation of French companies in the oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan.
In turn, Ilham Aliyev said relations between Baku and Paris are at a high level. At the same time, the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union are a wonderful example of dialogue.
"We have good political and economic relations with the EU. Our projects to ensure energy security in Europe are supported by Brussels. At the same time, no one can interfere in our domestic and foreign policy. Azerbaijan pursues an independent policy," said Aliyev. -16D-
