In turn, Aliyev said that the state of human rights in Azerbaijan is "positive" and "no one is persecuted for his political views."
At the same time, he said that political reforms are very important for Azerbaijan, and in this respect the rich experience of France is very useful. Azerbaijan shares these values.
Next, the Heads of State touched the Karabakh problem. Hollande noted that France supports the principle of territorial integrity. "We are committed to a peaceful settlement and it is one of the goals of our visit to the Caucasus," he said.
"As one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, France has a great responsibility and tries to fulfill its obligations under the confidence-building measures," Hollande said, adding that the talks will continue in Yerevan after lunch.
Concerning the issues of energy, the French President said that at the meeting with Aliyev he also discussed the participation of French companies in the oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan.
