Baku/27.01.14/Turan : Last Saturday an inmate committed suicide in the Kurdakhani jail. It was Nijat Ibrahimov from the Salyan district. Turan was told by the head of the local NGOs, Promoting Democracy, Emil Mammadov. According to him, Ibrahimov committed suicide in his cell.
In the Prison Service of Justice, they confirmed the suicide. In the public relations department of the Prison Service they told Turan that the causes of the suicide are being investigated.
Ibrahimov was arrested in September last year and on 28 December he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment under article 234.1 (illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding necessary for personal consumption) of the Criminal Code. - 03D06-
