Intigam Aliyev filed an appeal against sentence
An appeal was filed against sentence to the human rights defender Intigam Aliyev, according to the lawyer Elchin Sadigov. The complaint raises the question of appeal with repeated partial judicial investigation and acquittal. In addition, the defense raises the issue of recognition of rights violations of Aliyev guaranteed by Articles 5,6,7,10, 11 and 18 of the European Convention on Human Rights. According to Sadigov, a preliminary hearing on the complaint could be held in early June.
** Intigam Aliyev was arrested on 8 August 2014 on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. Subsequently he was also charged with misappropriation and forgery. On April 22 court sentenced Aliyev to 7.5 years in prison.
