Investigation in the case of Rasul Jafarov is over
Preliminary investigation in the case of human rights activist Rasul Jafarov is over, said the lawyer Gunay Ismayilova. According to her, Rasul Jafarov in the coming days will be acquainted with the indictment. Jafarov was brought to justice on common lawsuit against several NGOs. But now his case was separated and will be considered in the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
Late last week, the investigation put forward new charges against Jafarov of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan: forgery (313) and assignment (179.3.2). On these charges he could be condemned to 12 years in prison.
Jafarov, a coordinator of advocacy campaign "Art for Democracy" was arrested on 2 August on charges of illegal business, tax evasion, and abuse of office. On October 23 deadline for his arrest was extended for another three months. Amnesty International recognized Jafarov “prisoner of conscience.”- 16D-
