New charges against Intigam Aliyev

The head of the Legal Enlightenment Society Intigam Aliyev  is charged under new more serious charges under  the Article 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code (large-scale misappropriation and embezzlement), said the lawyer Javad Javadov.  Under the new Article, Aliyev faced up to 12 years in prison. Earlier Aliyev's arrest was extended to February 8, 2015.

Aliyev was arrested on 8 August to charges of tax evasion, abuse of office, and illegal business. He denies the charges and considers them to be politically motivated. Amnesty International found him a "prisoner of conscience." Similar charge in the last days was put forward  against  the two other  arrested civil society activists - Anar Mammadov and Rasul Jafarov. -16D-
