Jail term of two businessmen in Nakhchivan is replaced with a conditional sentence

Businessmen Mohammed Gurbanov and Nadir Mammadov were released from custody in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR.) According to the regional correspondent of Turan, the Supreme Court of NAR  partially granted the appeal  of Gurbanov and his son-in-law, Mammadov, previously convicted, respectively, to  four and five years in prison.

Applying Article 70 of the Criminal  Code, the Supreme Court  of NAR defined for Gurbanov  and Mamedov the penalty of deprivation of liberty  for three and  two  years  on probation.

The court took into account the age of Gurbanov, who is 60 years old, and that fact that  Mamedov  has a small child.

They both were released in the courtroom. However, both continue to consider himself guilty.

Gurbanov and his son-in-law and  assistant, Nadir Mamedov, were beaten on December 8 at the customs point "Sederek", when they came to take their cargo, taken away by the customs officials a day earlier. The businessmen refused to pay a bribe  to customs officials. Despite the fact that Qurbanov and Mammadov were beaten, they were arrested, and  on 13 February  were sentenced respectively to four and five 5 years in prison on charges of resisting customs officials and  hooliganism.—16B06—
