Baku / 24.05.17 / Turan: The Tbilisi City Court in the evening of May 23 selected a preventive measure of arrest for two months against the co-founder of the Lancet clinic Farman Jeyranly.
A well-known surgeon of Azerbaijani origin was detained on May 22 on suspicion of fraud on a large scale and concealment of information posing a threat to life or health of people.
The case was opened on the basis of a complaint of a relative of one of the patients who died in early 2016 after a liver transplant operation.
Jeyranly is accused of using the services of a surgeon, who did not have a Georgian certificate, in the operation and of not informing patients and the donor and their families about the risks.
It is interesting that the arrest of Jeyranly occurred one year after the patient"s death. Then an operative investigation into the causes of the death did not reveal the blame of the doctors or the clinic. In addition, Jeyranly was not the Director of the clinic.
On May 4 the website haqqın.az published the article Anti-Azerbaijani Underground in Tbilisi: Secret Venues, Money, Instructions about the emigrant Azerbaijani opposition in Georgia, where Jeyranly is presented as one of the main members of the so-called underground.
Recently, Azerbaijani authorities have urged the Georgian authorities to suppress the political activities of oppositionists who fled Azerbaijan from persecution by the authorities.
