Elchin Sadigov
Baku/28.03.23/Turan: Lawyer Elchin Sadygov has responded to the accusations made by the head of the online publication "Xural TV" Avaz Zeynally on his Facebook account.
They were both arrested in September 2022 on charges of bribery. However, Sadygov was soon placed under house arrest and his case was transferred to separate proceedings.
On 27 March, during the trial, Zeynally stated that Sadygov had been released because he had testified against him.
Sadygov, for his part, said that he had asked Zeynalli not to publish accusatory reports about his client, businessman Rasim Mammadov. (The former chairman of the supervisory board of "Baku Steel Company", sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment.)
Zeynally demanded money to stop the criticism, but when he received it he continued his "attacks" on Mammadov. This caused justifiable resentment in Mammadov's family. For this reason, Elchin Mammadov returned the money to Mammadov from his own funds.
"There was no corpus delicti in my actions under Article 312 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan," Sadygov wrote.
At the same time, he pointed out that against Zeynally "there are many charges and episodes" and he was arrested not only for this episode.
Recall that the case involves a bribe of 20.000 manats, given by the lawyer to Zeynally to stop the corruption charges against the arrested businessman.
Note that Avaz Zeynally is accused of a number of articles on extortion by threats, as a member of a group and repeatedly. -06D-
