Media Review for January 18, 2020
The expansion of social reforms, the proposal to build a canal linking the Caspian Sea with the Black Sea, and the likelihood of price increases are the topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the ongoing reforms in the country, covering more of the social sphere. So, in 2019, pensions, minimum wages, benefits and salaries were increased. This also affected targeted social assistance, which reached 209 manat and covers 72 thousand families.
The author also writes about the issuance of housing, cars and one-time cash assistance to martyr families and war veterans in 2019. In 2020, it is planned to provide housing for another 1,500 families.
The website Qaynar.info.az writes about the proposal of the ex-president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on the construction of the Eurasia channel between the Caspian and the Black Sea. According to expert Natig Jafarli, the implementation of this project can bring great benefits to Azerbaijan.
This ambitious project could cost $ 60-80 billion. Azerbaijan has no direct access to the sea, and in this sense it is sufficiently dependent on Georgia.
The website Yeni sabah.az discusses the possibility of increasing prices for some types of products. So, Azersun Holding increased the price of all types of oil, rice, and canned products by 5-7%.
Experts believe that prices vary according to market requirements. The incomes of the population increased, to which the market adequately responded. The government has stuck the market under its control so that there would be no artificially high prices.
