Media Review September 28, 2028

Azerbaijan-Russian relations, inaction of currency exchange offices, and an increase in the number of oncological diseases are topics of today's media.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the Azerbaijani-Russian relations on the background of the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Baku.

Over the past 5 years, about 50 business forums and business meetings between the two sides took place.

Azerbaijan invested more than $ 1 billion in the Russian economy, and Russia invested over $ 4 billion in Azerbaijan. In the first half of this year, trade between the countries amounted to 1.4 billion dollars.

Approximately 760 joint ventures operate in the Azerbaijani market. The Russian-Azerbaijani Business Council supported 42 joint projects totaling $ 450 million last year.

As for military cooperation, Azerbaijan has purchased military products worth more than $ 5 billion from Russia.

The website Marja.az writes about the inactivity of currency exchange offices, although all the necessary legal mechanisms exist. The author recalls that the exchangers were closed in March 2016. Expert Vugar Bayramov believes this was a wrong step, as about 6 thousand jobs were lost then.

Inaction of exchangers has several reasons, one of which is the high amount of deposit required to open points. A pledge is also required, the amount of which varies from 50,000 manats to 50,000 dollars.

The expert believes that for the work of currency exchange points it is necessary to leave only state duty, and the deposit amount must be liquidated, the mechanisms for the formation of points should be relaxed, and the purchase-sale of foreign currency should be liberalized.

The website Modern.az writes about the growth of oncological diseases in the country. According to official statistics, there are 45,756 cancer patients registered in Azerbaijan. Of these, 17,527 are patients who live 5 or more years.

At the same time, there is an alternative opinion that this number is not true. There are cases when people suffering from cancer do not want to be treated and do not have themselves registered.
