Milli Majlis ratifies the amendment to the Convention "On Physical Protection of Nuclear Material"
Today the Milli Majlis passed a bill approving the amendments to the Convention "On the physical protection of nuclear materials." This international document was adopted in 1966, in 1980 began the process of its ratification by countries of the world, said the first vice-speaker of the parliament Ziyafat Asgarov during the discussion.
Azerbaijan joined the convention in 2003. However, in 2005, an amendment has been made to the Convention, and there was a need to adopt the document. "So we have to ratify the amendment," Askerov said.
The MP Azay Guliyev explained that the amendment is timed to the forthcoming visit of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the United States for a summit on nuclear security. After discussions, the amendment to the Convention was ratified.-06D-

Lena Schilling, a Member of the European Parliament from the Green Party, has announced plans to donate every sixth monthly salary, equivalent to €10,000 gross, to support green initiatives and activists. Coast Guard forces intercepted a large shipment of drugs being delivered to Azerbaijan, the State Border Service reported on October 8. In the area near the village of Niyazabad in the Khachmaz region, border guards discovered over 205 kg of various types of narcotic substances and 13,110 tablets of methadone M-40, according to the report. Additionally, three Azerbaijani citizens suspected of supplying drugs to the country were detained on the coastal territory. Operational-investigative measures regarding the case are ongoing.
